Ep 34: Todd Sears - the Minnesota Twin who hit .500 against Pedro Martinez

Todd Sears is a real life "Crash Davis."

A native Iowan, Sears had big league stints with the Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres over the course of 2 seasons in the early 2000s during his 11 year professional baseball career. In this conversation with Andy Flattery, Todd recounts the time he went yard against Pedro Martinez, tells his David Ortiz story, and recalls the time his Nebraska Cornhusker team brawled with their rival, the Creighton Blue Jays.

My favorite part? Todd proposes the "alternate reality" when he discusses the very real possibility that he would have played both baseball and basketball at Iowa State University.

Sears spent parts of two seasons in the MLB, splitting time between the Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres. He was called up by Minnesota in 2002, hitting .333 with two doubles and three runs scored in seven contests. He began the 2003 season with Minnesota before being dealt to the San Diego Padres in September of that year. Sears attended the University of Nebraska and earned third-team All-America honors from the NCBWA and first-team All-Big 12 honors in 1997. He was selected in the 3rd round of the 1997 Major League Baseball Draft by the Colorado Rockies.
