Chuck Hartlieb - How This Backup Became an Iowa Hawkeye "Mount Rushmore QB"

This is a landmark episode for the Moonlight Graham Show as we were privileged to have a conversation with Iowa Hawkeye football legend and true Moonlighter Chuck Hartlieb.

In this conversation, Chuck tells the legendary underdog story of beating out Mark McGwire's brother to win the starting QB gig. He describes the all time classic win against Ohio State in '87 that gave Iowa their first win in Columbus in almost 3 decades. He's also got some great stuff on the iconic Hayden Fry, and much more.

An All American, Chuck led the '87 Hawkeyes to a then school record tying 10 wins.  In '88, Hartlieb had another incredible year when he broke the other noteworthy Chuck's school records for both completions (288) and yards (3,738) in a season (that being Hall of Famer and former NFL QB Chuck Long). Hartlieb finished his Hawk career as only the 2nd player in history to throw for more that 3,000 yards in two consecutive seasons.
