JJ Redick

Season 11 might just be the best season of the Moonlight Graham Show yet. It starts out with an absolute splash of a guest in JJ Redick. The 15 year NBA vet has made a career as a sharpshooting role player on playoff-caliber teams. In addition to being one of the best shooters in NBA history, Redick has built a brand in the podcast world. What better way to kick off Season 11 than with the best of both the sports and podcasting worlds?

JJ Redick might not seem like a prototypical Moonlighter. He is still active as one of the best shooters in the NBA and was an absolute star during his college career. But Redick’s story fits our show pretty darn well. First of all, Redick has plenty of Iowa ties. In fact, he grew up going to the Cyclone basketball camp because his aunt worked for Iowa State University. And even though he went to be a star at Duke instead of hanging out in Ames with his aunt, he is pretty well connected to his Hawkeye contemporaries like Greg Brunner and Jeff Horner, not to mention Iowans Kyle Korver, Kirk Hinrich, and Nick Collison.

After a stellar college career that saw him become a star for the Dukies and a villain to a lot of other fanbases, Redick was a first-round pick. The Moonlighter in him began to show when he arrived in NBA because he had to become a role player instead of the centerpiece. The role he has carved for himself is that of a deadeye sharpshooter. He spent 5 years as a regular starter for the Clippers but otherwise, he has spent the majority of his 15-year career coming off of the bench and hitting almost 42% of his three-pointers on his way scoring over 12,000 points.

And like any good Moonlighter, JJ Redick Is known for his work ethic. He doesn’t stop working when he steps off of the court. A few years ago he was asked to get involved in podcasting and ended up hosting his own show with Yahoo Sports and The Ringer. After exactly 100 episodes, Redick launched his own podcasting company, ThreeFourTwo Productions, in August of 2020. Now he has taken on another role, seeking out other podcasts to be part of his production company.
