Klay Rowe

It’s get off work on Friday and fly out to a tournament

Most Moonlighters are proud to look back on their career as reaching their alma mater’s hall of fame as a sign of some of their top achievements. This week though, our guest was really just getting started when he finished his amateur career. Klay Rowe followed up an All-American caliber career at Iowa Central and Bellevue University by becoming a national champion.

Klay Rowe grew up in Nebraska but became the Trashman at Iowa Central. His high-energy style of play and scrapping for every ball matches his nickname and has helped him find success at each stop in his hoops career. After two quality years in Fort Dodge, Rowe returned to Nebraska to play for the NAIA program at Bellevue University. When his college career was over though, he stayed involved playing in 5 on 5 leagues and some tournaments for cash, but a chance phone call from a manager jump-started his 3x3 career.

Rowe joined a few other Nebraska basketball players on a circuit for a new style of 3x3 play. This version of 3x3 was created by FIBA and has some unique rules. They have started off hot but have really only played in 12 tournaments together. They have won several tournaments, including the national championship over top-seeded New York Harlem. With a record of 60-5 since June of this year, Rowe and his teammates are trying to take the next step in competing with 3x3 pros from around the world.

Enjoy this week’s episode as Klay Rowe and Tim break down professional 3x3 basketball and the prospects for 3Ball Omaha as they have upcoming tournaments. Each tournament win brings home points in the Red Bull 3x3 standings with the chance to bring home $25,000.
