US Open Qualifier with Sam Meuret

The Moonlight Graham Show is nothing if not loyal. And what sports relationship better represents that loyalty, through thick and thin, than a golfer and his caddy? Tim returns to the links with our favorite golfer Sam Meuret to take another swing at qualifying for the US Open.

Sam Meuret has been on the podcast a few times now. Sam and Tim have walked miles together in pursuit of their goal of qualifying for the US Open. Last year, Sam qualified for the US Open Sectional in Ohio and came up just short of earning a spot in the US Open field. This year, the podcast rides along on the trip to Riverside, Iowa. Sam and Tim recorded half of this episode on the way to Blue Top Ridge Golf Course and then finished up as they headed home.

Iowa springs can sure be a wild ride. This year’s tournament took place on the hottest day of the year and had enough wind to make things very difficult. The course conditions were among the worst Sam has seen in the countless times he has played at Riverside. And while all of the golfers faced the same challenges, Sam certainly lost any advantage that he might have had walking up to that first tee box.

The Moonlight Graham Show loves to follow the story of Sam Meuret because golf is a sport that certainly lends itself to underdog stories. Meuret has had a successful golf career but even as a part-time amateur golfer, qualifying for one of the biggest golf tournaments in the country is never really out of reach. And with Tim on the bag, certainly anything could happen on any given round.
